County not looking for funding sources

Re: County 2011/2012 budget hearings, associated Pilot articles and continued county commissioner refusal to answer electorate budget related questions.  According to county finance supervisory staff early last month:
•The proposed budget should be online by May 18, 2011.
•2010/2011 “General Fund” appropriations totaled approximately $10.1 million.
Commissioners, now that you have unanimously approved the 2011-2012 budget, when may the public see it?
5/14/11 Pilot: “Committee hopes to cut $600,000 from county budget”
•Commissioner Waddle: “The County General Fund budget is $4.6 million for 2010-11. …My goal is to get to $4 million or a little bit under.”
Commissioners, is the total general fund $4, $6 or $10 million?
5/18/11 Pilot: “Group OK’s salary cut for county’s top officials”
•“The Budget Committee will hold budget hearings through Thursday, expecting to cut the general fund by 12.2 percent to a total of $5,765,685. That budget for this year was $6,063,275.”
Commissioners, how do you reduce $6,063,275 by 12.2 percent and end up with $5,765,685?
5/21/11 Pilot: “Group cuts $300K from county’s general fund”
Commissioner Waddle was reported saying he was “cautiously optimistic” that the Secure Rural Schools Act funds (SRS) would be renewed and, if they were approved for at least five years, it would give a chance for the economy to improve and for Curry County to find other sources of funds.
Commissioner Waddle, why would you expect taxpayers to believe that should SRS funds be renewed for five years,CurryCountyofficials would find other sources of funds when officials have known for the last 10-plus years and done nothing?
Commissioners, why has there been little to no discussion or media coverage about how the remainder and major portion of the 2011/2012 budget will be used, including proposals to significantly reduce or eliminate some of that spending?
