It’s time to retire Senator Harry Reid!

“A lie has no leg, but a scandal has wings.” – Thomas Fuller
What is a scandal? In terms of a dictionary definition, a scandal would be a sordid, illegal, or illicit event which rocks a person of power. Scandal takes a swing at the legs, breaking the knees of whomever it affects. Scandal and politics are inextricably linked, probably because power rarely fails to corrupt.
What would you say if a Senator slandered millions of Americans? What if, after he was harshly rebuked by the opposition, he denied ever having done it? One would like to believe that a Senator wouldn’t call millions of Americans “liars,” or be stupid enough to lie about it afterward. However, when you are part of a protected class, you can pretty much do whatever you want, and get away with it.
The Senator to whom I’m referring is none other than Harry Reid. Now that the effects of Obamacare are becoming clear, millions of Americans are voicing their concern, and sharing horror stories. Some of these horror stories—which include cancer patients losing healthcare coverage, and millions of Americans paying skyrocketing premiums—have been featured in commercials denouncing Obamacare, and the Democrats who so ardently support it.
Clearly upset by all the haters, Harry Reid took to the Senate floor, and delivered a passionate rebuke of those who would dare criticize Obama’s signature achievement (I use the word achievement lightly…and pejoratively):
“We heard about the evils of Obamacare, about the lives it’s ruining in Republicans’ stump speeches and in ads paid for by oil magnates, the Koch brothers. But in those tales, turned out to be just that: tales, stories made up from whole cloth, lies distorted by the Republicans to grab headlines or make political advertisements…There’s plenty of horror stories being told. All of them are untrue, but they’re being told all over America.”
Ouch. Well, as we all know from looking at our own insurance premium increases, and cancellations–myself included–what Senator Reid said was, itself, a lie–making him a big, fat liar. Now, this little gaffe would be bad enough on its own, but good ole Harry had to step it up a notch. What a gutsy guy! When Reid was finally called out on his insane conjecture, he claimed he never said anything at all:
“I have never come to the floor, to my recollection, I’ve never said a word about examples that Republicans have given regarding ObamaCare and how it’s not very good…Mr. President, the junior senator from Wyoming has come to the floor several times recently talking about the fact that examples that he and others Republicans have given dealing with ObamaCare, examples that are bad, I’ve called lies. Mr. President, that is simply untrue…”
I haven’t checked CSPAN recently, but I would wager that Harry Reid’s pants are quite thoroughly ablaze at this point. This is classic Democrat strategy: say something horrible, and then lie about it until it goes away. This strategy works brilliantly because the media is an extension of the Democrat Party. Were a Republican to make similar remarks, they would be flogged by the media until they resigned, or died. Where’s the scrutiny? There is none, because the media have become sleeping dogs in the lap of the great one, Barack Obama, and by extension, any Democrat.
Just as Rush said: “Scandals never stop an administration unless the media wants them to stop an administration, which means that no scandal is ever gonna stop Obama.”
The same applies for Harry Reid.
